Where do the really wealthy families live in your city? I'm aware anyone that has the money can buy whatever house they can afford, so some Old Money people live in the New Money areas and vice-versa. Still, it seems like in most cities there are the traditionally wealthy or classy neighborhoods, and then newer neighborhoods that rich people live in that don't have quite the same feel. For new money, think athletes, Kardashians, lottery winners, guy who grew up poor but built a company up, etc.
Some examples:
Houston: River Oaks for Old Money, New Money in the Villages and far out suburbs like the Woodlands
Los Angeles: Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, Bel Air for Old Money, Calabassas for New Money.
Minneapolis: Lake of the Isles for Old Money, also some places around Lake Minnetonka, For New Money, maybe North Oaks.
Philadelphia Old Money: Rittenhouse Square, Society Hill, Washington Square, Fitler Square, Chestnut Hill. New Money: Graduate Hospital, Northern Liberties, Fishtown.
Georgetown
Upper Northwest DC (where richer folks have been living since at least the early 20th century)
Bethesda, Maryland
Chevy Chase, Maryland
McLean, Virginia
Part of Arlington, Virginia
New Money -
Potomac, Maryland
Great Falls, Virginia
Many other affluent suburbs in Maryland and Virginia
Atlanta: Western Buckhead, Historic Druid Hills, Historic Brookhaven are the old money enclaves, while VaHi, Midtown, Brookwood Hills, Chastain Park, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody are all new money.
Olmos Park—-Think a smaller Highland Park (Dallas)
Alamo Heights—Not as consistently rich as Olmos, but has some wealthy area and is colloquially know as Old Money
Terrell Hills—Think River Oaks in Houston
Monte Vista—Used to be the old money neighborhood in SA, has the prettiest houses in the city.
King William—Where the rich Germans built mansions in the late 1800’s, now very hip part of town.
New Money
The Dominion—Ultimate New Money gated enclave in the hills, think Rancho de Santa Fe in SD.
Elm Creek—The first Gated rich enclave
Stone Oak—Huge development with rich areas, think The Woodlands in the Hill Country
Hill Country Village- Rich enclave of huge lots
Shavano Oaks—Rich enclave of new money
old money
City (neighborhoods): Beverly, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park
Suburbs: Highland Park, Kenilworth, Long Grove, Winnetka
new money
City (neighborhoods): Lakeview, River North, Streeterville, Wicker Park
Suburbs: Barrington, Naperville, Wheaton
Hinsdale, Western Springs, Wilmette, Lake Forest, Burr Ridge, Oak Brook are alot wealthier than Highland Park, Barrington, Naperville, and Long Grove.
Hinsdale and Western Springs are a combination of New/Old Money. Sauganash in the city is also old money.
Orange County, CA : combination of new/old Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, Villa Park, North Tustin, Yorba Linda, Dana Point, Orange Park Acres, Fullerton hills, Huntington Harbor.
Highland Park— Ultimate Old Money Neighborhood. This is where you know you arrived. Think a prettier, less tacky Beverly Hills
University Park—Along with Highland Park, they form an area known as The Park Cities. The Volk Estates area is very wealthy.
Turtle Creek—Wealthy High Rise Condos along Turtle Creek with all the great views of downtown, most 5 star P
hotels and restaurants in this rich area.
Preston Hollow—Massive Mansions on large estates, this is what you think of when you think “Dallas”
Lakewood—Large estates along White Rock Lake.
Swiss Avenue—Original old money enclave, think KC Country Club area, now kinda spotty
New Money:
Plano—huge suburb with wealthy areas
Frisco—suburb with wealthy areas
Richardson—Ditto
it is all New Money here, since the Old Money
generation died long ago, and the grandchildren
moved away with their inheritance which left gorgeous
real estate for the New Money. of course, the older estates
needed extensive upgrades for the internet era which gutted
the interior but left the exterior in a close resemblance to the past.
