I always considered CT to have an identity crisis. Culturally it's a mix of NY (particularly Westchester), Western Mass, with some elements of Rhode Island.
People like to compare CT to NJ since both have sections part of the greater NYC metro area. NJ, in my opinion, has a more distinct identity with the well-known shore towns. NJ also has it's own major league sports teams unlike CT.
Nevertheless, CT is a beautiful state in most areas. I believe it would be a pleasant place to reside in the northeast.

Hartford Whalers left years ago for Charlotte, then the state plead allegiance to majority Rangers, minority Bruins.
Back in about 1968, I spent two weeks in Hartford Conn attending a Pratt & Whitney School. Stayed in a hotel on Asylum St. I believe it was in Feb. I wasn't impressed.
Terrible tax rates and massive income inequality between the snobby rich people and everyone else.
Not my cup of tea since you have neither the freedom of the west nor the amenities of a big liberal city. Pretty or not, it's sort of the worst of two worlds to me.
Yes, I realize that every state has had its horrible crimes. But for some reason -- and don't ask me why, because I don't know -- I mentally tag this particular crime as an indictment against the state in which it occurred.
And finally, I had occasion to occasionally travel I-95 in Connecticut back in the 1980s. Back then, the road was always under construction, and they had these signs that said "Road legally closed; state liability limited." I hated those signs. Or, more to the point, I hated the slippery weasels who came up with them. Either close the road for real, or stop pretending that it's closed just so you can't get sued.
So yeah, those are my impressions of Connecticut. As you may have guessed, it's not my favorite place.
