For someone looking to leave Los Angeles, what cities/metros may be a good option and provide a realistic transition? (transplants, how much)

To someone who is used to the stereotypical advantages of Los Angeles: sunshine, beauty, resources, etc. and the disadvantages: traffic, superficiality, high costs, etc.

What other cities/metropolitan areas in the USA may serve as a place that alleviates some LA disadvantages, but isn't too much of a culture shock?

For example, somewhere that snows a lot is going to more difficult to adapt to.

Tampa-St Petersburg perhaps? Not sure how much "big city" you need though so it's hard to recommend. If you're looking for major hustle-bustle it's not a good recommendation, but if you want a more laidback coastal lifestyle with big city amenities, more down to earth people in general and sunny weather it would be a good match.

Phoenix, only thing missing is the beach (and moderate summers)

Tampa, Phoenix, or San Diego. Maybe Las Vegas. Miami possibly, but it's a lot more different from Los Angeles than most people think it is. And a lot of Californians don't seem to really like Florida the way Northeasterners and Midwesterners do. Your options are pretty limited. If you want Los Angeles, stay there.

Maybe Miami,Vegas ,Phoenix or Austin, Texas.Austin does not really feel like the rest of the Lone Star State and it is really popular with Californians.

Miami is a culture shock from anywhere. Might as well move to Havana.

San Diego has lots of LA's attributes with less negatives.

The problem with San Diego as a place to live is it has LA's COL but lower wages, with most of the well paying jobs only in tech and medicine, so if you aren't in those fields, San Diego will be tough to get by in

Sacramento perhaps. Significantly lower cost of living, less traffic, lots of natural beauty around, and lots of sunshine. The winter and summer extremes are greater since it's inland, but still pretty moderate. You do lose easy access to the coast though and the metropolitan area is much smaller.

Phoenix is probably the closest thing in the U.S. Plenty of California transplants, mountains, palm trees, sunshine. Less severe traffic and more affordable. Very scenic in the right parts.
