Hi,
I have just taken up a job with major IT firm as a Consultant and will be traveling every week to client places. I am not tied to any specific location and can live near any major airport from where I can easily take flights to my client places (anywhere in US).
I have two kids (6 and 9 yrs) going to elementary school and currently living in Las Vegas area. I am thinking of moving to a better place where schools are good and I can travel easily.
So far, I am considering Atlanta / Philadelphia / Dallas / NJ /Houston as possible locations as they are hubs for major airlines. I am an Indian and would also prefer to live in areas that are popular among Indians where I can get Indian community.
I would like to understand which is the best city to move to considering various factors such as - good schools, cost of living (apartment rent, taxes etc), proximity to the airport, Indian community presence, livelyhood of the location, low crime etc..
I would appreciate if anybody in the same situation can give some insights or opinions in this regard.
Any information will help ..
I would recommend Atlanta based on it's geography, better weather than the other options and cost of living which will be the lowest other than perhaps Houston. There is a very large Indian community on the north side where there are also very good to excellent schools. Check out the Alpharetta and Suwanee areas.

DFW may work. There is a large Indian American population in the region, with Las Colinas of Irving being a notable center. It's also fairly close to the airport. Only problem is I don't know about the school quality or who even serves them.
Philly! All my indian friends enjoy the philadelphia area. I can't really say one specific area I would look. King of Prussia, PA, cherry hill, nj, darby, PA, Lansdale, PA Media, PA, Swathmore, PA all would make good choices. With an Indian population well over 100k, you can find plenty of events, grocery stores, and what not around. The schools in the area are very good for the most part. Good access to the airport.
One notable thing I find cool about the Indian community around Philadelphia was that Millbourne, PA was the first town in the US that most of their residents were Indian. Today, it is most notable as one of the only blue collar working class Little India's. I find it fascinating.

Not four miles from where two of the authors of this book live and work is the borough of Millbourne, Pennsylvania. It is a small community, one-third mile along Market Street stretching west from central Philadelphia. On these four or five blocks of Market Street are two stores that sell halal meat (specialising in goat), a Sabzi Mandi, Sonia’s Beauty Place that does eyebrow threading for $3 (Rs204), and a Malayali-run insurance franchise. One block off Market Street, behind a Dollar Tree store, is a gurdwara and center of the Philadelphia Sikh Society. One could visit Millbourne on any warm evening and see families sitting on their porches and chatting with their neighbors in Punjabi or Malayalam or Bengali, or strolling along Market Street with their children, wearing salwars or saris and dupattas or turbans. It could be a neighborhood in Delhi.

Thanks .. I will check out those areas in PA you mentioned. I was also told about Treddyfrrin School District and Wayne, PA area for good school district by one of my friends.. So will check out this area..
Good options all the way around. Nice cities, large flight hubs and strong Indian communities. I personally don't see a one hour commute to the airport as a big deal once a week, but to each his own lol.
I cant break down specific hoods but I think Houston and Dallas are good options. Not sure that the lack of state income tax would apply to you but they offer what you seek and are more central to allow easier flights to the west coast.

absolutely. Wayne is a town along what we call "The Main Line" . I would say this area does have the best schools.
Other notable towns along the Main Line are Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Merion, Narbeth, Villanova, Radnor, Malvern.
