I'm in Louisiana and I would annex
1. Hancock County, Mississippi - Home of Bay St. Louis, the NASA Stennis Space Flight Center, and several major casino resorts that would generate revenue. Culturally the Mississippi coast also has many ties with Greater New Orleans and South Louisiana
I would CONSIDER annexing......
2. Adams County, Mississippi - home of Natchez, one of the most charming historic towns in America with many classic antebellum homes
3. Orange County, Texas - a lot of industrial output from the petrochemical industry which is also dominant in Louisiana, including Port Arthur and its port facilities as well. Port Arthur and all the way west to Houston is very tied to South Louisiana economically especially to the Lake CHarles area
I used to live in West Virginia and I would annex
1. Alleghany County, Maryland
2. Garrett County, Maryland
3. Washington County, Maryland
4. Frederick County, Maryland
5. Loundon County, Virginia
These would increase the economic output of the state without adding many Democratic voters to the state. Alleghany and Garrett Counties have rich natural gas reserves that the Maryland state government won't let them develop. Those counties also have coal reserves that MD refuses to let them mine. If WV could annex those counties the natural gas drilling and coal mining can start and local residents and the state would benefit.
Loundon, Washington and Frederick are exurban counties with high incomes that would benefit West Virginia's tax base but filled with conservative voters fleeing the big cities. (I chose to not annex areas in suburban Pittsburgh because that would bring Democrats into the state and lead to negative economic policies. Loundon is one of the less liberal counties in NOVA)
