LA or NM. I'd give the slight edge to New Mexico, only because you can see the Spanish/Native American influences all over the entire state, not just concentrated in small areas like you see in Louisiana.
To a certain extent, all three of these states have attributes that make them unique among the 50. But Vermont has enough similarities to New Hampshire, and even to the eastern part of upstate New York, that I wouldn't pick that one. New Mexico bears some similarity to Arizona, in terms of topography and climate and even culture, to an extent. So I suppose I'd have to say Louisiana.
Louisiana to me, is a very unique place overall. New Orleans is one of my favorite places to visit. The people, history, architecture, vibe, etc...are all very unique.
Then you have the bayou & swamp areas, which have a whole different thing going on.
I'd go with Louisiana. New Mexico and Vermont do share a lot in common with their neighbors, but Louisiana puts in great effort to be the only state of it's kind. I mean, it's the only state with parrishes instead of counties, for example. The Creole and Cajun influence. I don't know of any other city that's anything like New Orleans. And of course, the vampires ....
This would be better set up as a poll. But I'd pick New Mexico.
