The title is pretty self explanatory, but since this is the internet where pedantry reigns supreme, I must add that I'm using City in the colloquial sense, as opposed to the legal sense, meaning "an urban community of some size and at least regional importance" meaning that an isolated community, a suburb of a city or a small college town that happens to be legally incorporated as a city does not apply, and a large urban community that is legally a town isn't disqualified. I specified residential architecture because it doesn't matter whether or not the municipal building, the central library and the civic center look like the opening scene of Blade Runner or something from Le Corbusier's wildest fantasies (as depicted by David Lynch) because I can't buy it and live in it.

Wouldn't Los Angeles take the cake here? When I think of rich Angelenos, I think of slanted houses with infinity pools overlooking cliffs. Here in the Northeast, residential homes, even those belonging to the super rich, tend to look "old-school" in look. Either brick townhouses, large wooden/brick mansions, or modern glass apartment buildings. But nothing that really screams "weird residential architecture", just new. NYC is a close second (possibly first), since you do have a lot of modernist high-rises/skyscrapers that are "different", like the Standard or the Jenga Tower. But I don't think NYC proper has weird modern residential architecture that isn't a high rise of some sort. Certainly it doesn't have modernist single-family homes/mansions in the city proper like LA does. Maybe the suburbs do.
Houston would be contender with the Beer Can House, The Orange Show, the Corrugated Steel Townhomes, and what not. It is a mess and they like it that way.
Something about Ralph Haver... Frank Lloyd Wright... Al Beadle.... Hmmmmmm
