Yeah, what's with the corny rap theme? and "y'all"? anytime I hear that word I just cringe. Did you catch the bus heading around the 4:45 mark? > "Hey Amazon CLT is Prime!" clever I like Charlotte and think they have a shot, but they could have done a better job on that presentation.
pnwguy2, there are stories in the PSBJ etc., including a general diagram. It's lowrise buildings.
The_General, I suspect many of the presenters know their odds are next to impossible, but they might also consider it a chance to get on a list for smaller Amazon operations, and also get some PR that other companies might notice.
To keep this on thread, with Amazon having built several mid-rises in Seattle, I have always thought Microsoft should have a signature tower, (in Redmond, if height limits allow), but this is probably not important to the company, IMO.
Microsoft has three(?) highrises in Downtown Bellevue, including both towers at the Bravern and the newer tower at City Center.
Amazon also leased a new short tower in Downtown Bellevue that opened this year. It's the most "downtown" you can be in the region without being in Seattle itself.
I get that, but Microsoft has yet to have a "signature" tower, and that was my only point. But I digress, I don't think this is the style of the company.

I don't either; in fact, I get the idea that such a thing is rather out of vogue with tech companies in particular. Google, Microsoft and Amazon have all thus far opted for a campus environment over a supertall for their headquarters.

Comcast has been building tall buildings for their campus, but agree few are going this route
the tallest outside of NYC and Chicago just topped off last week for Comcast and now there is speculation of the third 950-1200 tower to be announced soon as part of the campus

It's Southern vernacular and Charlotte is a Southern city. No need to shy away from that just because of ignorant folks who feel Southerners are inferior.

I watched the video, didn't listen. It was terrible without sound. It apparently is worse with sound.
Raleigh (and the rest of the Triangle: Durham, Chapel Hill, Research Triangle) is the definition of dark horse. One of the most educated regions in the US with some of the highest per capital degree holders in the US and robust IT and medical markets with hundreds of IT companies having secondary offices around the Triangle that include IBM, Cisco, and Citrix. Red Hat and Lenovo USA call Raleigh home. Raleigh (and the Triangle) are unassuming but almost always makes the list of 10 ten cities to live/work/quality of life. European companies flock in the Research Triangle to setup their US offices such as Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. Developers are scrambling to buy up properties now that it's getting more attention.
I found it funny the Charlotte video boasted about it's colleges yet in North Carolina the Triangle is known for colleges with Duke, Chapel Hill, and NCSU being renowned universities with hundreds of other universities filling out the region. UNC-Charlotte has a loooooooooong way to go. A very long way to go.
But if there's one thing Raleigh doesn't do is self-advertise and thus in any competition it will always be the dark horse.
It does lack good public transportation but that is slowly being address with the new commuter rail being developed in the coming years. So Charlotte has that going for it.
