Anyone have an idea when we'll hear about a shortlist or even the chosen city?

Interesting article from today regarding Bezos accepting HRC's National Equality Award.

Some Excerpts:

Some of the cities and states that have emerged as frontrunners in the race to win Amazon's second headquarters are also promoting discriminatory social policies that stand in direct opposition to the values Bezos so eloquently extolled.

In Texas, for example, the governor recently signed a bill that allows faith-based groups working with the state's welfare system to block adoptions to LGBTQ parents. Still, Austin is a strong contender for HQ2.

And, in Georgia, four of the leading Republican candidates for governor have pledged to sign a controversial religious freedom bill, expected to come up for a vote this year, that permits vendors to reject services or employment to LGBTQ people on the basis of religious liberty. Though Democrats may oppose the bill, it still stands a chance of passing if one of these candidates wins. Nonetheless, Atlanta is a favorite for The Everything Store's second headquarters.

"At Amazon," Bezos told the audience at HRC's dinner, "equality is a core value for us, and it's simply right." Now he has a chance to tell -- and show -- the country.

Amazon's headquarters choice could say a lot about diversity in America (Opinion) - CNN

Will there even be a shortlist or will they simply proclaim the winner?

I can tell you it's going to be Atlanta.

Amazon wants to be more diverse. Seattle just won't offer that for them. By choosing Atlanta they can have a very large percentage highly educated minorities and it will look great for PR. It also is on the "opposite side" of the US than them both west to east and north to south, so it makes a good balance. The cost of living is low and they'll easily be able to lure people from Seattle to Atlanta, especially those that are a bit tired of the rainy weather.

Wikipedia says 2,500,000 sf. 16,000,000 sf isn't plausible...there are no buildings of that size.

As for "front runners," people know it's all speculation, right?

Is diverse code for black on this forum? I'm not hating on Atlanta, but the only area that Atlanta beats Seattle in diversity is for being a black majority city, nothing wrong with that, but diversity entails a large selection of different ethnic and racial groups.

Like for instance a true diverse city looks like NYC
white: 44.0%
black: 25.5%
Asian: 28.6%
Hispanic: 12.7%
Native: 0.7%

Atlanta
white: 38.4%
black: 54.0%
Asian: 3.1%
Hispanic: 5.2%
Native: 0.2%

Seattle
white: 69.5%
black: 7.9%
Asian: 13.8%
Hispanic: 6.6%
Native: 0.8%
Pacific islander: 0.4%
two or more: 5.1%
other: 2.4%
