In short...

No they are not. Seasons are absolutely not overrated in fact they're underrated.

I feel bad for people who don't get to experience Fall and all the colors.

Speaking of fall colors, the leaves are starting to change here and I love it! This morning it was 45 degrees, and it's supposed to get colder for the lows later in the week. Nice. Love me some fall. Time to crank up the fire pit and the fireplace!

Well, here we are the end of October and we have had record high temps this past week. We will reach 88 degrees today. We had two nicer days in September where the humidity was down and the temps were bearable but that was only to tease us. By this time of year I am so over the summer and want some cooler weather where I can actually open the windows at night. My a/c has been running 24/7 since May. If my whole family wasn't here I would really consider moving to Tallahassee. They have shorter summers and they actually get four seasons. Tallahassee is more like southern Georgia than it is Florida. Thomasville, GA is only about 30 minutes away if I recall correctly.

We had several weeks of very dry weather several weeks ago. Trees were starting to turn brown and I was convinced we wouldn't get much color this year. Then a nice bit of a cold snap and a goodly amount of rain came and suddenly we have color! I am in awe of the reds and purples that are so dark they are nearly black this year. Rarely do I see such deeply colored leaves here, and I wonder if the weeks of stress on the trees caused the unusual coloring. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the last minute show.

I've experienced them all my life, if I never saw another brown/yellow/purple/whatever leaf again in my life I'd not think of it as a loss of any sort. Leaves are meant to be green, those colors are a sign of decay and death.

Let's not ignore the ugliness of the mush they create on the ground together with mud which can be as slippery as ice.

I've always been convinced that all the lore around fall colors - just like Christmas - is just a way for people stuck in such climates to get *some* positives from an otherwise lamentable season. It's a coping mechanism. Lipstick on a pig. Now I don't begrudge anyone the desire to get something good out of all times of the year, but the notion that it's somehow a *preferable* thing is downright laughable.

Well, you certainly sound like a reasonable, delightful and logical person.

Definitely not overrated. I love the seasons and actually need them. I spent 6 long years in Florida (originally from New England) and I just could not get used to the constant heat and humidity. I would start to get depressed during summer because it was so uncomfortable for me. You can’t be outside in summer in florida it’s just too damn hot. So you run from your AC filled car to your AC filled office then to your AC filled house. This goes on for at least 6+ months a year. Not fun at all.

For me, the holidays don’t feel like the holidays when it’s 80 degrees and humid and you are putting up the Christmas tree in your shorts and tshirt. I like how the seasons break up the year. It’s too monotonous to have the same weather all year long, it just doesn’t feel right to me. Now I totally understand how some people run away from the cold, shoveling snow, scraping ice etc. Especially older folks. However for me that just doesn’t bother me. The colder temps actually invigorate me and make me feel more alive. Hot humid weather makes me quite irritable and tired. To each their own.

Wow, Halloween Day and night are supposed to be really chilly here. Brrrr! It's also supposed to be windy with winds out of the north. Poor trick or treaters! LOL I'll just be handing out candy from inside my house.

Meanwhile back in SW Florida, Halloween will have a high temp of 90 and a low temp of 75. Add the humidity and it will not be comfortable for those wearing heavy costumes.

As someone else said - seasons break up the monotony and, for me, it helps me pinpoint a time when something occurred "well, there was snow on the ground so it must have happened during the winter", or "all the leaves had turned so it must have been autumn". We don't have those references here in Florida. It's the same all the time. Yes we may get a cold day once in awhile but the scenery never changes. We don't get the autumn leaves changing and we don't get the first spring blossoms because things bloom here all the time. I had a friend who lived in Hawaii and even she said it got monotonous after being there 4 years.

My son lives on Guam and while it is an island paradise in many ways, he says that the weather gets very monotonous there. I can see how that would be.
