Exactly. You had to go back nearly 17 years to find that, which indicates a 5 month winter in upstate New York is just as rare as a 6 month winter in the Upper Midwest.

How often do you get a 6 month summer in Phoenix?

What is interesting is that the next winter was very mild to the point that much of NY State has some of its lowest snowfall totals ever. So, winter isn’t the same each and every year.

Never, at least by our standards. Summer here is consistent high temps 100°+ and consistent mornings over 75°. And most years, that is late May/early June to mid to late September

And I went back that far, because that was the last year I lived there. I moved to Phoenix in July of 2001

And what do you think a Minnesotan says about a 6 month winter?

Maybe it's the fact that I hate snow and ice. I guess I am biased against Continental/polar winters, the big reason I left the Northeast. And that last winter was a doozy, sealed the deal that I was making the right decision leaving

Sure I understand that. But at the end of the day (when it comes to the topic of this thread), the upper midwest (maybe northeast) is the most sensible place. It all comes down to what a "real winter" is.

North Dakota, although fall and spring are very short. Summers are short but are amazing.

Are there any places in the deep south that get four seasons?

Metro Atlanta (northside around Gainesville, Alpharetta, etc), the North Georgia mountains (around Dalton, Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, etc), the Greenville SC area, the Huntsville AL area and while not technically "Deep South", the Chattanooga TN area as well.
