I live in Interior Alaska and don't know anyone who owns livestock. I know of only a couple places that have livestock but if it is not an arctic species of animal, you will likely have to go through a lot of time and money to keep them. You would need a heated barn and you need to buy hay, etc from September through June. Gardening here is GREAT in the summer. But if you want livestock in Interior Alaska, and you wanted to fly to NYC - it would be a lot of hassle. You would have to find someone who could feed and water your animals while you were gone, and you would have to keep them in a heated barn.
What I am trying to say is this part of Alaska isn't the best for owning animals, unless you plan on having Reindeer or Musk Ox..
