What cities are truly part of the Northeast? Consider anything from architecture to culture to demographics, what do you consider Northeast?

Well since I've learned from other forumers that Seattle is just about the greatest city ever, and is and has just about everything, I thought I'd mention it. After all, someone voted that Phoenix is the most European city in the country! Also, just wanted to see if someone would vote for it...they probably will now that I mention it.

My list stops at Philly. Pittsburgh and Buffalo are too far inland and IMO are more culturally and economically affiliated with the northern Midwest (Cleveland, Detroit, etc.) than their coastal counterparts. Baltimore and Washington are too far south to be "northeast." I'd call them Mid-Atlantic. Any city that sits within spitting distance of (or actually bordering) a former Confederate state isn't part of north-anything.

Baltimore and DC are both part of the northeast corridor although they are part of the Mid-Atlantic just like Boston and Hartford are part of it but also part of New England. This debate has been done to death on here.
