Hello everyone. I am in a bind because I am ready to relocate from the Atlanta area, but I am not sure where to go. I was seriously considering California, but because of the high cost of living, it is no longer a top choice of mine. Does anyone know of any other states that would be good for me? I am a little picky so please forgive me. I am looking for:
A medium sized to large city where I will not get bored. A place where singles can find things to do.
A state with either mountains or beaches or both. That is a preference, but not required. If you know of any good states that are flatlands, then that is fine.
A place with a good economy, with hopefully jobs for a graphic designer.
Mild winters, with little snow or none at all. Also, summers that are not too hot and unbearable.
Low crime if possible, since it is just me for now.
I am not sure if such places exist, but any suggestions are appreciated. Once again, sorry I am picky.
Seattle sounds like it might be a good fit for you. The cost of living is high, but not as high as California. It gets snow but not all that much and it is generally gone within a day. While the winters can be dreary, rainy and grey, the summers are renowned for being mild and gorgeous, with constant sunny weather. There are mountains nearby and beaches a few hours away, but the water would be too cold to swim in without a wetsuit . The city being a major city would have plenty of things to do and plenty of singles to network with. Crime is a heavily localized issue so that would depend on where in the area you'd choose to settle. I'm not certain on the state of the economy there. I know that Portland isn't looking too hot at the moment but I believe things in Seattle if not great, are at least okay, although I'm not sure about jobs for graphic designers.
California does sound like the best place for you, but that **** cost of living just always seems to stop people in their tracks unfortunately. I think if you can stomach the grey and rainy weather, Seattle would be a great choice for you.
Yea go the seattle route, lived there for awhile, great city. I Lived in Raleigh as well, think WA would be better. Dont do portland, born and raised there.

Yes, Seattle is a great city. But I'd hate to have to put up with so many rainy/cloudy days. NC's has more than its share of sun!

Your criteria place you in the most expensive place in the nation, wherever that happens to be at the moment.
Seriously, asking for ALL that in one place means you'll pay a lot for it.
Can you say which qualities in a location matter most to you? At least 2 people said "Seattle" but I think you might find it a bit of a shock in terms of climate and it's also just about as big as Atlanta. Drop-dead gorgeous area, but the weather's pretty horrible most of the year.
Would you consider places like Boise? Salt Lake City? Denver? Or are they all too cold?
If you don't want cold, don't want hot, you're talking California. End of story, get out your wallet and prepare to be shocked. Something's gotta give in that list of location qualities, so what could you give up most easily?
