Historic- Concord Lexington, brick downtowns, 18th century homes, 19th century neighborhoods
Scenic- More farms, trails, rivers, hills than you'd ever associate with a congested metroplex
Too Expensive- Yeah.
1. LOW humidity, little to no need for air conditioning (we have a swamp cooler)
2. We're removed from a lot of the civil unrest that grips the country time to time.
3. The whole region is an outdoor playground, if you're into that.
Somerset, NJ/North Brunswick, NJ:
1. Access to large suburban areas with shopping plazas and malls(North Brunswick and East Brunswick, Bridgewater, Freehold)
2. Access to a small city/college town(New Brunswick), 1 hour away from Manhattan, and 1 hour and a half away from Philadelphia
3. 1 hour away from the Jersey Shore
Rahway, NJ(used to live here):
1. 45 mins from Manhattan, 30-40 mins from Hoboken, Newark, & Jersey City
2. 1 hour and a half from the Jersey Shore, 2 hrs from Philadelphia
3. A bit lower cost of living than North Brunswick & Somerset
Newark, NJ(Where I go to college)
1. Good Transit System(NJ Transit anchor point, PATH, light rail), Transit access to Manhattan, Hoboken, and Jersey City, and New Brunswick
2. Downtown is cool, access to Portuguese restaurants(Ironbound), Branch Brook Park is nice, Prudential Center
3. College. I like my college and it provides a different feel from the suburbs. Plus my dorm is nice
1. Scenery and climate: Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park, PA Route 5, Ohio Route 531, Ashtabula Harbor. We're snowy, but summers are perfect, with plentiful sunshine and temps near 80.
2. The food scene. For a semi-rural area, we have lots of great restaurants.
3. Affordability: Many houses sell for 45-55K. They're old, but with a bit of TLC, can be great. I rent a 2BR apartment, and all my bills come to about $475 total per month.
I live about 20 minutes east of downtown Los Angeles:
Endless things to do that are free or cheap: museums, art galleries, bookstores, cafes, live music, mom & pop shopping, comedy clubs, wide options for nightlife (from cheap dive bars to glitzy rooftop nightclubs), and of course enjoying the close access to the beaches.
The extension of the Metro system is very exciting for me, I only wish I was within walkable distance to a LRT line and didn't have to park & ride.
Delicious and boundless options to try new food. I'm from rural Oregon where our options for "exotic" food was sushi. I still love sushi, but since moving to Los Angeles my taste for food has expanded to Indian, Colombian, Vietnamese, Thai, and a particular strong taking to Lebanese.
(not in any particular order).
