What are some of the subregions within the South?

Some of the subregions that I can think of are

1.) Cajun Country
2.) The Mississippi Delta Region
3.) The Ark-La-Tex (area around the border of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas which includes cities such as Shreveport, Texarkana, and maybe Longview)
4.) The Ozarks
5.) The Wiregrass Region
6.) The Piedmont
7.) Appalachia

Great thread and question. Here is another I can think of, and is so often excluded from the whole "idea" of "The South."

That is, "Western South." It consists of, IMHO, that part of Texas generally west of Ft. Worth, east of the trans-pecos, and south of Amarillo. It is NOT the desert Southwest and it is not the Old South either....although it is more the latter than the former. It is where the South and the West meet and greet...the former moved a bit toward the latter...

At the same time though, trans-Mississppi Louisiana and East Texas sorta form a "kinship, and are "western South" in their own right.

And then there is the old "Cotton Belt" South and historical Lower South...or Deep South:

Deep South - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Florida is divided up into coastal regions. The Tampa Bay area south is referered to as the "Florida Suncoast". North of Tampa Bay starts the "Nature Coast". There are several others as well. The Kennedy Space Center area is known as the "Space Coast". There is also the "Gold Coast" and several others....

THere are a ton of different regions, although a vast majority of the them are polluted with Cracker Barrel, franchises, and brick housing. I cannot believe I once lived in the South.

I believe the term "South Atlantic" is used by the U.S. census bureau.

I live in the San Diego area now. There is nothing "wrong" with brick, I just didn't like living in the South (or the East Coast for that matter) and I have a bad association with brick houses.
