Asheville, NC. There's always a lot of buzz in the Western North Carolina threads and the photo sticky is full of beautiful pictures.
I had a totally different idea of Asheville before I visited. Partly due to these boards. I was quite underwhelmed when I first arrived. I grew to appreciate it (as much as I could during a one week visit). I do think it's overrated but is still a decent little town.

Yeah, it's nice enough for a one or two night stay, but that's about it. I do love Biltmore though.
That didn't make me like Philly any less. I had a great time in Philly, and I even enjoyed touring the bad parts.
What cities do you like, out of curiosity?
In the last few years I've been to Philly, DC, Boston, Montreal, and Vegas. I liked all of them except Boston. Not that Boston was terrible, it just didn't do it for me. And I wouldn't want to actually live in Vegas.
Since you asked.................funny that you don't like Boston, I actually do. I like Portland Me, Burlington VT, Chicago, Detroit ( really, I find it fascinating and on the upswing ) New York, Nashville, Tampa, Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis/St. Paul and DC. There are towns that I find less than to my liking because of the run down or dirty look to them- Memphis, Hartford, Trenton, Baltimore, and to a lesser extent Philly, although there is some great stuff in Philly such as Reading Market, the historic center and the downtown area. Those are the ones that stand out in my mind, no offense to anyone who might live in my less favorite areas. Every other city is a neutral, since it has pluses and minuses, like SF, with homeless and average architecture, but great natural scenery for example. Just my take. Only because you asked.
Cities that opened your eyes from City-Data? (2015, live in)

My vote goes to Minneapolis/Twin Cities.
These are three cities I am curious about mostly from City-Data.
Madison, Wisconsin - For a relatively small city, Madison gets mentioned fairly often on City-Data and almost always in a positive light.
San Jose, California - I heard of San Jose before City-Data but I thought it was a suburb somewhere down by Los Angeles, not a major city near San Francisco.
Austin, Texas - I do sometimes hear about Austin in real life but I also read about it here more often. Sounds like it is similar to Madison, although unlike Madison, sometimes people seem to knock Austin.

Austin is much, much larger than Madison. Both nice places, but pretty different.
I like them both. Madison to me is much more charming, where Austin certainly has the climate advantage and far more jobs.
