I have been to a lot of the states. If the locals have a southern drawl, I consider that a southern state. So here are the southern "drawl" states; KY, VA, AR, TN, NC, MS, AL, GA, SC, OK, TX, LA, FL.

West virginia has been described as the most northern of the southern states, the most southern of the northern states, the most western of the eastern states and the most eastern of the midwest. I lived there for 4 years an would agree.

Missouri (where I currently live) is a vanilla-flavored midwestern state. That's about it.
