15,000 is massive! Microsoft is almost done building a huge campus in Mountain View that will house 2,000 employees and it's supposed to be their largest campus outside of the Seattle area, so a campus as big what bisnow is describing for Atlanta is quite something.

Maybe you're thinking of retail? They've been announcing several large office expansions throughout 2020: https://www.costar.com/article/95297...es-in-pandemic

Largest was the 1,500 job, 520,000 sq ft Atlanta lease, about two miles east of the site they've been purchasing. (But within those two miles are a few very busy railroad lines, very few connecting streets, the county jail, etc.) Second largest was ~400,000 sq ft in Reston VA.

It sounds like the 90-acre campus is real, but I suspect the 15,000-person count might be more theoretical capacity than an actual plan. I did find another report in Atlanta. But there's no reporting in Seattle.

On the optimistic side, Sal Nadella believes in limited WFH. They're also expanding in Redmond, redoing much of their core campus in a denser format, and adding space nearby. Some of that is realignment with a new rail line that will open in 2023. And it's easy to imagine them wanting to put some growth in a cheaper/warmer/eastern city with good air connections.

Yeah, 15K is huge for anywhere.
I welcome news like this more than the regular corporate headquarter relocation announcements.
Especially since it sounds like an in addition to rather than consolidation of workers already scattered in the metro.

Good point but if even half that number is realized, it would still be a powerful shot in the arm for Atlanta. I'm sure the time scale being looked at is at least a decade.

That's huge news for Atlanta.

RIP Raleigh/Durham failed Apple RTP Campus. At least Apple hasn't sold their property yet.

Align Technology Establishes New Global Corporate Headquarters in Tempe, Arizona

https://www.globenewswire.com/news-r...e-Arizona.html

ALGN is a maker of dental systems, about $45 billion market cap. Another headquarters leaving the Bay Area for a more affordable Sun Belt metropolis.

Market Cap is really a very iffy metric.

For example Tesla market cap is over 850 billion but only sold measly 367,500 cars.

While these other huge produces have a very low market cap.

Ford market cap 140 billion and sold 5.4 million vehicles in 2019.
Gm market cap 50 billion, sold 7.7 million vehicles in 2019.
Toyota market cap 245 billion sold, 10.7 million vehicles in 2019.

18Montclair is using market cap to suede things away. Market cap is literally the most swinging metric in the book. And on top of that, it discludes private companies, many of which are some of the largest companies in the world. Revenue is also a bad metric, so I agree there, but I'm still not sure where this market cap praise is coming from.
