There's actually quite a bit of hostility between Buffalo and New York City.
The Mayor of Buffalo and the Mayor of NYC have bets with each other in sports. Last year when the Buffalo Sabres played the New York Rangers in the NHL playoffs, Mayor Brown of Buffalo bet Bloomberg on the series. If the Sabres won the series, NYC would have to send some New York style pizza to Buffalo and if the Rangers won the seies, Buffalo would have to send some chicken wings down to NYC. Bloomberg basically said 'No, we're too busy winning championships.'
But even outside of sports, Buffalo and New York City have held grudges for quite some time.
My ex's family is from upstate NY, near Rochester. My former FIL always thought NY w/o NYC could be quite self sustaining. And there is something to being from New York, the state. My ex was a New Yorker, through and through.
One thing i notice about Ohio is how people in Columbus think that the state revolves around them. They act like they are the only city in this state that counts or is worth anything. Thankfully, we up here in the NE corner of the state know better..........well, at least some of us do! haha!
