In California? I assume so, it is a desert in the south half of the state. However, you could also look into the northern portion. Either way the humidity of the desert is quite low.

I should also mention, that this sunny dry place can be a 6 month place, for the summer months; then I would return to live in Mexico for the winter months. Like the snow birds do here in Lake Chapala. So it can be a place with snowy or cold winters. As long as the summers aren't humid and cloudy.

That $500 housing estimate might be a problem in many places.

New Mexico and Arizona will have a monsoon season in late July and August -- not tropical like we imagine a monsoon to be but you will see rain showers or a storm off in the distance (maybe 60 miles away) most days even if it's sunny and will get some rain once or twice a week if you are lucky.

Colorado has the monsoon as well
