So there is a discussion on the Nj forum about a mayor's mom,(Joe Rotundo) rant about Koreans.
Joe Rotundo is Italian American,I believe 3rd generation.
One of the posters wrote" I would bet many NJ Italians if they traveled to Midland Texas, or Little Rock Arkansas would be seen as immigrants or tourists based on how they look and behave."
Now part of me is skeptical about this, and i really do not see how someone who is a fully assimilated American of Italian descent can look out of place in Texas(which is diverse anyway)
Haha no way in hell as far as the "Italians" I've met from the Northeast. My girlfriend's roommate is from the area and she's a 100% typical American white girl.

This. It's pretty obvious that society views them as just as white as any other European-American group. In fact, some of the most stereotypical white American ultra conservative people I know are Italian-American.
And even white supremacists fully consider Italians white these days.
There are already Italians in the deep South (Louisiana) anyway.

Is the point of this post simply to talk about/brag how “Italian” some Italians from the NY Metro think they are?
“OMG we are sooooo Italian that we’d be scary down South.”
The physical difference between ethnically Southern Italians and Germans is tiny, so no. Even then, these guys would either be talking in a General American accent or NY/NJ accent, so you'd have to be really stupid to confuse them for a foreigner.
I would think that, at most, an Italian American from NJ would be considered a "Yankee." As far as an immigrant, almost certainly not. Although, I could see darker, Sicilian-heritage Italians potentially being mistaken for Hispanics in the deep, Deep South. However, after interacting with them, again, I would assume even they would just be considered Yankees (or someone from the NE). The majority of Italian Americans, as far as their looks, would probably just be considered white in the Deep South. Again, there are a good number of Italians that look more Latin, who I could see being mistaken on first look as immigrants in the Deep South.
There are many Italians (Sicilians) in places in the deep South. Many came after the civil war to farm. Yes its all true. I don't see any problem there at all. I have grown up with them.
