I am retired and currently living in the midwest where winters are cold and harsh.
I am thinking of buying 0.25 to 2 acres of land, upon which I can legally park a 20 - 30 ft Airstream or Avion aluminum trailer as a permanent residence (or for as long as I choose).
> Looking for ideas for the most suitable states, and counties/towns/areas within those states
Priorities are (in approximate order of importance):
- Land available for up to $5,000 / acre (or less) in smallish plots around 0.25 - 2 acres
- Medium town, small town, rural, semi-rural, counties with population preferably under about 25,000 - 50,000
- States/Counties/Towns/Areas that allow medium-to-small mobile homes and/or tiny homes as permanent residences; would consider a small-college-town a plus
- Winter temperatures typically no lower than about 40 - 45 degrees, more sunny than cloudy, tend to prefer dry rather than humid summers but am currently being flexible
- Active local farmers markets
- Neighbors/educators/entrepreneurs who are interested in alternative lifestyles including off-grid living, do-it-yourself housing and infrastructure, home schooling, solar/wind energy, organic agriculture, grass-fed livestock, free-range chickens, etc.
- Areas not known for heavy drug use, crime, societal strife
