Using the US Census Bureau's definition, the Midwest is made of the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Of course this region is a huge region and there are lots of unofficial regions within, such as the Upper Midwest (I've never heard someone say Lower Midwest), the Great Plains, and the Great Lakes regions. States in the Great Plains have aspects of the Mountain West the further west you go, and states bordering the South have a more Southern feel (so I'm told) the further south you go. Some places definitely have a blending of culture and geography.

The question I have is what are some things that all of these states have in common? Whether it's cultural, geographical, political, religious, etc. If this has been covered here before feel free to provide a link.

Laid back - unpretentious. People live simply even in wealthier areas.

Nah. There are a lot of pretentious people, and not everyone lives simply.

There are but certain areas have much more pretentiousness. Coastal regions and even the Mountain West has much more if it.

One that I thought of is that people in the Midwest don't tend to be so fussy or wierd about food. When there is a potluck people dish up and eat. People tend to not go on and on about nutritional value or fat content, and if people don't want sonething they just don't eat it. If they're on a diet they generally don't make a big deal out of it.

I think Midwesterners are the most honest of all the regions. A person will have a lesser chance of being ripped off by car repair shops if the car should break down in the Midwest rather than the Northeast, the South, or the West.

Yes, certainly not exclusive to the Midwest, though.
