So we're talking about out of the major cities/metros such as Phoenix, Albuquerque, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, and so forth...

Which is best and why for an upper middle class late 20s person who has to hit various milestones in life...?

All input is appreciated.

It all depends on your personal interests and preferences. Are you basic?

I think you’ll get help if you provide more details:

What type of work do you do?
Housing type and budget?
Single or paired off?
Care about local politics?
Distance from family members?
Entertainment preferences?
Does public transit matter?
Any weather preferences?

And what milestones are you looking to reach?

I will also add, in reality, an ambitious person with a high income in their 20s (which is uncommon in itself) can do very well and live like a king in just about any low COL city.

Single male, don't care about politics, don't like snow/ice, prefer car centric/suburban/not concerned about public transportation, distance isn't a concern, some intellectualism/culture would be nice, but don't need a thriving entertainment community, don't need a lot of space or sqft value, but not a "high rise/density" sort of person- I need a garage.

My bad. Misread citdata18 as another post by OP.

But plenty of parts of metro Atlanta would fit the bill, as would Tampa, the two cities on your list I know something about.

But each city you've listed does have its own personality, and you have to be comfortable with that. No one will get the same vibe in Atlanta as they will in Austin or Miami or Phoenix, if for no other reason than the local economies can be very different as can the local ethnic demographics. You might do better in thinking about the type of neighborhood you'd call ideal, rather than the city that's best. And of course if one place offers better job/work opportunities that should probably be foremost. Like the old song goes, "No romance without finance."
