We're retired now & selling home in IN. I'm from Mn& we wanted to move up North but leery to return due to ticks. I already have an autoimmune disorder & don't want more problems.
Hubs & I love to hike, fish & hunt. Looking for home where it isn't super warm or humid (90°+ )in summer. Would like 4 seasons, being outdoors is most important. Being very near or on a fishing lake would be ideal. We do NOT want to live in a city of more then 65,000. We don't mind being isolated. No gloomy summers please.
Can anyone help us locate a semi-rural/small town or rural area we can buy land/home which meets our criteria? Don't want high priced area. Simple life, organic gardening, chickens are our speed.

I'd recommend somewhere along the I-81 corridor between the Tri-Cities in TN/VA (Johnson City TN, Kingsport TN and Bristol TN/VA) northward to Pulaski VA, Dublin VA, Christiansburg VA or Radford VA. The area has four seasons and while there may be some 90 degree readings in summer (only 7 this past year), they're not regular by any means and the area is not known for being humid. Wautauga Lake near Johnson City and Claytor Lake near Radford VA will offer up plenty of fishing options, and surrounding areas for hunting and tons of hiking options.

I totally concur with kyle19125. This region was the one I was going to suggest. A rural feel, but still has small metro amenities. Very beautiful and outdoorsy. Solid 4-season climate without the extremes. Friendly people. Very affordable.
There are ticks in any place that it's green. It's humid in all of those places, too.
