I know its where I live now, but I thought Saint Paul was "just okay" the first time I visited it. I enjoyed Minneapolis a lot more. But now living in Saint Paul I get to actually enjoy it and discover its beauty.
LA. Always disliked LA, but got a pretty good job offer right out of law school in South Pasadena and as I was living in SD at the time and the job market there was still bad (post-recession), I jumped at the opportunity. I didn’t really want to leave San Diego, but the salary was good, far higher than what I could have expected in SD, so it was strictly a job-related move. Ended up really enjoying my time there. I absolutely love Pasadena, some parts of the SGV, etc. Still not a huge fan of West LA/Santa Monica but I experienced different aspects of the city/metro that I enjoyed. Overall, I don’t regret that part of my life and left having a far better opinion about LA than I moved there with. Still my favorite Asian and Mexican food destination in the US!

Your post only reinforces my desire to visit the Twin Cities to see if relocation could be an option.

I just drove through St. Paul while visiting the grandparents and it definitely doesn't jump out and grab you. There's nothing "oh wow!" from the appearances of it. It looked like pretty much run of the mill. I feel like you got to dig in and actually explore to see what's there. Minnesota isn't flashy in the way things are further east, but everything is nice and they keep their homes and street clean and kept up.
Not so much “in love with”, but vastly better than my first interactions is Las Vegas. The more time I spend off The Strip in places like Red Rock Canyon, the more I like it there.
