Jamestown, ND is known as the Buffalo City, and is home of the world's largest buffalo, which sits on a hill overlooking the city. The city is also home to White Cloud, a rare albino buffalo, that also gave birth to another albino buffalo named Dakota Miracle. Apparently the chances of this happening are very slim. The author Louis L'Amour was also from Jamestown.

The steepest public street in the country (and unofficially the world) is in Pittsburgh's Beechview neighborhood. Canton Avenue has a grade of 37% meaning it rises 37' for every 100' you go horizontally.

The Guinness Book officially recognizes Baldwin Street in New Zealand as the world's steepest street at a 35% grade.

I used to live in the DC area; here are a couple of celebrities living there you might not expect: exercise guru Denise Austin, who lives in Alexandria, VA (can you imagine anyone more "California Girl"?), and Pat Sajak, who lives in Severna Park, MD.

The area that is now St. Paul was originally called "Pig's Eye."

A Blue Earth, Minnesota, law declares that no child under the age of twelve may talk over the telephone unless monitored by a parent.

There's a Museum of Sand Paper in Two Harbors, Minnesota and a Spam Museum in Austin, MN.

No man is allowed to make love to his wife with the smell of garlic, onions, or sardines on his breath in Alexandria, Minnesota. If his wife so requests, law mandates that he must brush his teeth.

Minnesota's nicknames:

"The North Star State,"
"Land of 10,000 Lakes," (There are actually 11,842.)
"The Bread and Butter State,"
"The Gopher State" and
"New Englnd of the West."

Known as the Twin Cities, these two cities form the core of Minneapolis-St.Paul, the sixteenth largest metropolitan area in the US, with about 3.2 million residents. The US Census Bureau estimated the population of the city of Minneapolis at 369,051 people in 2006.

The name Minneapolis is attributed to the city's first schoolmaster, who combined mni, the Dakota word for water, and polis, the Greek word for city.

I live in Klamath Falls - we have no "falls".

There used to be a drop in the rapids... it's dammed now... Messes with the tourists something awful.

San diego has the USA's most haunted house called the waley house and there's actually a us government list to make it official.

San diego state was the #1 party school in the 80s and 90s and is still considered in the top 5 today. I go there so that can't be a good reputation on my business degree even if sdsu has one of the top business programs in the USA.

Most of the movie, anchorman, was filmed in long beach/LA, not San diego

San diego professional sports teams have NO world titles/championships

Downtown San diego is built on a former landfill

The San diego wildfires in 03 and 07 at points polluted parts of the metros areas air to toxic and deadly levels. Most citizens had a horrible cough for up to a month, including myself.

600,000 people evacuated the danger zones, including me and my family. the biggest organized evacuation in us history.

San diego use to be the Metz capital of the world

San diego is the poinsettia and avocado capital of the world. We have cities dedicated to each one.

San diego has the largest naval base/fleet in the world

San diego has the longest pier on the west coast

San diego is the oldest city in California.

Well, what could a sleepy suburb like Mission Viejo, CA have done? A decent amount for a suburb of 98,000 in Orange County.
- Mission Viejo Nadadores Swim and Dive Team has placed an athlete on every Olympic team since 1976 and holds the record for national team titles at 47. The Nadadores have also won 47 National Team Championships, 12 Olympic Gold Medals, 7 Olympic Silver Medals, 1 Olympic Bronze Medal, 5 Individual World Championship titles and 148 individual National Championships. The Nadadores have broken 91 American Records, 22 World Records and have produced more than 135 All-Americans. Not bad for opening in just 1968.

-Some of the summer games of the 23rd Olympics in Los Angeles were held in Mission Viejo around the city's lake such as Long Distance Cycling.

-Olympic athlete Florence Joyner was a city resident and passed away in her home in the city.

-Olympic soccer athlete Julie Foudy came from Mission Viejo and teammate and fellow Olympian Joy Fawcett now resides in the city.

-Mission Viejo was rated the safest city in the entire US by by Morgan Quitno Press this year. The city has been in the top ten for ten straight years.

-Mission Viejo is one of the first "master planned" communities in the USA. The city became a model for other suburbs and started the "master planned" trend. There is even a neighborhood called Mission Viejo in Aurora, Colorado following the same theme and plan used in California. Highlands Ranch, CO is also directly based off Mission Viejo, CA.

That's about it, but what can you expect from a little suburb. Still, it is a great place to raise a family and I am thankful to live here.

The hamburger, hot dog, cotton candy, peanut butter, and Dr. Pepper were all fully introduced for the first time to the USA in St. Louis. St. Louis is also home to the first Olympic Games held in the USA in the still largest urban park in the USA.
