Houston? Baltimore because of Johns Hopkins? Rochester because of Mayo Clinic but the city is small so I'm not sure I would consider it. I'd put Boston up there as well.

Basically the stretch from Raleigh to Boston and West Coast + Chicago, Houston, Raleigh, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and some would say St. Louis. Yes, before any heads burst, Mayo clinic's HQ is in Rochester.

This may not be an exact measure, but when applying for residencies, the most competitive/prestigious programs for us are in the Bos-Wash and major Midwestern cities for most people in my region, but the south has its own juggernauts, such as the Texas Medical Center.

There are excellent, prestigious, and resourceful hospital groups in every region of the country, but each region also has a dearth of medical services, mostly in rural areas.

Yes, Rochester is small but think of the massive economic power house that the Mayo Clinic is for the smaller city.

Denver's definitely not on the same level as some of the heavyweights, but the city does have two world-renowned facilities.

National Jewish Health is, AFAIK, the only research hospital in the world dedicated to researching and treating pulmonary, cardiac, and immune disorders.

Craig Hospital in Englewood is a well-known spinal cord and tbi rehab facility. They've treated several notable people over the years including Amy Van Dyken, former Alabama Governor George Wallace, jockey Willie Shoemaker, and they're currently helping IndyCar driver Robert Wickens recover from his wicked crash at Pocono Raceway last year.
