I'm bored and just throwing out a question with no real philisophical worth, but what the hell.

This question of course would pertain only to all of you who have seen the movie "Home Alone".

This movie was filmed in a quintissential home in an ideal town on Chicago's northshore. (Winnetka) This town is also one of the wealthiest towns in the U.S. and really reflects upper-middle class life.

So here's the queston: In direct correlation to the film, which suburb of your city (or any others you might know of) would most fit the bill (for the producers) to film this movie in?
I also took the downtown of Winnetka into account as well.

Amuse me.

Here are my picks

New York: Bronxville

Los Angeles: Pacific Palisades

Chicago: Duh!! Winnetka

Washington D.C.: Bethesda

San Francisco: Mill Valley

Boston: Wellesley

Dallas: University Park

Philadelphia: Wayne

Atlanta: Dunwoody

Houston: The Woodlands

Miami: Parkland

Detroit: Birmingham

Phoenix: Scottsdale

Seattle: Mercer Island

Minneapolis: Edina

Denver: Boulder

San Diego: Del Mar

Cleveland: Chagrin Falls

St. Louis: Webster Groves

Tampa: Westchase

Orlando: Winter Park

Pittsburgh: Sewickley

Sacramento: Folsom

Charlotte: Davidson

O.K. that's enough, time for bed.

Scottsdale? Hmmm. As much money as Scottsdale has, its 100% opposite of Winnetka. There are no stately Georgians, Victorians, etc. No tree-lined streets either to speak of. I would never get the "Home Alone" vibe in Scottsdale. Nice town, but not the right feel whatsoever.

Here in IL we have MANY towns/cities that reflect the "Home Alone" look/feel/lifestyle... here are a few that I can think of that closely resemble that feel: St. Charles, Geneva, Wayne, Winnetka, Naperville, Lake Forest, Wheaton, Oak Brook, Barrington, South Barrington, Barrington Hills, Kenilworth, etc.

How about Whitefish Bay, WI & River Hills, WI those are both near Milwaukee. Then you have Maple Bluff outside of Madison, WI. There is some huge houses there. Income rates in those cities are pretty high as well.

For Washington, D.C., I'd say Potomac, Maryland or McLean, Virginia. Bethesda is more commercial and the houses there while overpriced are not large or fancy. Many don't even have garages, why they cost so much I don't know.

Baltimore - River Hill

Las Vegas - Summerlin

San Francisco - Marin County

Raleigh - Cary

New Orleans - Metairie

Medina? I would think the town should have a nice downtown area similiar to Winnetka as it was used to film the boy running through it.

I also considered La Jolla, but it is just to large and commercial to depict any sort of all American wholesomeness. Rancho Santa Fe would be a good choice to, although I think Del Mar fits the profile better.

Ellicott city over Bethesda is probably accurate.

Hyde Park in Tampa is not a suburb, but who the hell cares I guess.

I did not know Englewood was upscale at all.

River Oaks for same reasons as Hyde Park.

Cool perspective nonetheless.

Good job...you completely nailed it with Birmingham, MI! Another one I'd say though is West Bloomfield, MI which is right outside of Birmingham.

Good list. I wonder what the "home alone" town in Utah is?
