What intersection (or short 2-3 block stretch) is the "Times Square" equivalent in your city - with glitzy lights, high energy, and the feeling of being a central and familiar area?

East Market is suppose to be this for Philadelphia. It just got kinda seedy for a long time since the 70s. A lot of investment has gone into the area over the last decade or so, and it is getting nicer. The mall has been completely revamped and has the best movie theater in Center City now. A few blocks of crappy gold stores and other junk like that has been torn down for massive mixed use apartment buildings with massive digital billboards. Grocery stores are popping up around the area. I personally think it's a "build it and they will come" type of area. There is one massive lot that is still a parking lot at 8th street. It's got the max zoning and can accomedate a 1000+ ft building. I hope it is something grand one day.

I still love looking at old pictures of some of the blocks. It was truly a happening place back in the day.

Augustus Caesar: Bah, humbug your Times Square! We've got the Roman Forum!
Las Vegas: A square? We've got an entire Strip!
Hong Kong: The whole city is more crowded than Times square
Mumbai/Dhaka: We're so crowded we don't have space for any public squares.
Beijing: Big concrete expanses surrounded by commie buildings on three sides and a Forbidden City and ten lane surface street on the remaining side is better than Times Square.
Los Angeles: We're too decentralized to have a Times Square equivalent.
