Yeah like cpomp said, any larger city is gonna have pockets of places like what you're describing OP.

For smaller cities, sketchy nightlife in Albany, NY occurs around Lark St and Pearl St.

Manhattan may the only exception since it has gotten so expensive and "high-end", but it still exists in pockets.

See my original post -- all will have small incidents or pockets of it, but my point is which cities do you run into it commonly and in the main nightlife areas.

Do yall honestly want to say chinatown/leather district in Boston isn't rough on weekend nights? How many newsreels/film clips do i need to post.. Because there are dozens of fight shooting and stabbing that happen in that area. Dozens.

In that case, I don't think Philadelphia is any worse than a Chicago or DC in its main areas. There are lots of cops (as there always should be), but I don't really see sketchy or creepy behavior in the main parts of the city, unless they happen in the wee hours of the morning.

Crime in Boston is low anyway? ... still not a bad area compared to 90% of other nighclub districts. Its not as safe as Seaport or Cambridge... but it trumps a looott of other nightclub districts in safety. Downtown orlando is about twice as bad crime wise, and yet I still dont feel nearly as unsafe there.

^Crime in NYC is low anyway?? I would say that area in Boston feels sketchier than any area in DC nightlife scene. Mostly because there seems to be less fighting and more wide and well lit streets in DC.

That area of Boston used to be known as the combat zone. Not sure if it still is. In college, it was definitely rough and scary, but I was too young to know any better. This was in the 90's.

Really depends on what crowd the establishment caters to. You can find classy and trashy places in any decently sized metro.
