It's tacky but if you know what you are getting into it should be ok for making that Dollywood pilgrimage! Gatlinburg isn't quite as bad because it's a small little strip in the mountains you can walk around in. Pigeon Forge you can't even really walk between all the crazy attractions.

The real terrifying thing about the place is how many people are there who don't seem to realize it's horrible. Seriously, tons of people love pigeon forge and Gatlinburg without any hint of irony. It must not be that bad..

... Have you been anywhere in Orlando and Miami aside from the tourist sector of Orlando and South Beach?

Lots of potential candidates, but these are some of the "best":

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg
Atlantic City (to an extent; to another extent, it just feels impoverished, although the crime rate isn't TOO bad for the amount of poverty there)
Myrtle Beach
New Braunfels
Niagara Falls
Wildwood, NJ (not in the same level as the others, but...)

Ocean City, MD, is many things, but I mostly wouldn't call it kitschy. I'm not a big fan though.

Reno and Atlantic City also come to mind but beyond that I'm just curious what other cities would you consider to be kitschy?
Austin?

"keep Austin weird" so I'm just guessing it's probably a weird place lol

Austin is not very kitschy and I actually don't find it that weird. Minneapolis is much weirder IMO.
