I recommend Spokane, Washington. Very clean and beautiful. The worlds fair was there in the 1970s, so there is a large park across a waterfall from downtown that has pavilions and other things to do
Boise, ID is one of the best mid-sizers.
City population around 206,000 and Metro population near 620,000.
It is clean, outdoorsy, has a river, a vibrant downtown, mountains, a fabulous bike culture, plenty of greenery, and civic pride runs deep, and the city has a good mix of funky, progressive, conservative, and liberal mindsets. It is becoming a haven for artists and wine is popular, there are a lot of vineyards and wineries in the metro.
I would also like to hear from people who have moved back to America after living abroad. I'm considering doing this, but worry about fitting into a conservative/religious city.
The other criteria I have is a city that is at least partially walkable, I would like to live somewhere that is walker friendly.
I'm also unable to post a new thread, any idea on how to do that? It says I'm allowed, yet I don't see where to do that.
