Looking for the ideal place for my family and I. I work as a CPA from home so work isn't an issue. I'll list our priorities from most to least important:

- Low Crime/Drugs (we have a young family)
- Warmer, Drier weather (mild winters but still 4-ish seasons)
- Centrist or leaning conservative politics
- Mountainous (not flat) terrain
- Not overly-crowded traffic (open to small cities, even small towns)

Thanks for your help!

Yes, seriously considering it! Visited there for a month and really liked it. I heard Payson is nice too, but never been.

I have never had the pleasure of visiting myself but everything seems to check off the things you are looking for. I would love to make it out there one of these days.

I'd say Utah/SLC.

Mountains, Conservative, dry heat mostly, definitely not as huge a drug city as some other cities out west (which is why I ruled out Denver here, as well as pretty much anywhere on the coast), milder than Arizona generally, and not overly crowded/bad traffic.

Boom!!!

Albuquerque wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Yeah, but crime is high on our list. Albuquerque ranks pretty badly in all sorts of crime.

That sound pretty nice, but isn't SLC it quite cold?

Firenze (Florence) in Toscana, Italy perhaps? Cannot think of anywhere in the USA that fits the profile you are desiring. If you do find it, I will come move there with you

It is not quite as bad as Denver where I live, but yes, it is cold much more than it is warm. If anyone says Denver, trust me, they are out of their mind! First of all, it is too dry here and second of all we just had a large snow storm as late as May 20th. Winter can be bone-chilling cold with nights in the negatives and we get lots of snow storms all Spring long with little breaks of warmth just to mess with your head. It is cold here much more often than it is warm as well. The political part is also going way to the left if centrist/conservative is what you are aiming for, just as I am being a Libertarian. Another thing to keep in mind about Utah is the opposite problem, it is very right-wing conservative and with a religious bent. So, things like getting beer over 4.0% will be a challenge. E.g., I hear its illegal to serve beer in Utah over 4.0% on draft.. You have to pay like 3 times as much as in a store for a bottled beer at a restaurant that serves food.. There are no such things as bar/bars or breweries in Utah either. Everything is a restaurant with a special booze license. Not fun for the centrist conservative person like me who loves his freedom to imbibe in the 21st Amendment.

I have heard it can be quite cold for a good stretch of the time, but it may be worth looking into Reno.. Las Vegas could be another option, but its HOT, not warm. Sedona, Arizona is touristy and kind of yuppie I hear, but it may also fit the profile if you have some serious cash. I hear its not cheap there.

It does get cold in the winter months, but in that region I'd also say it's one of the only places you'll get seasons, so if you're okay with a few months of cold temps, you'll also get to enjoy some snow. You won't get much or any of that in most of AZ, SoCal, and NM. It's also cheaper than Denver and generally traffic is better too.

Plus, you can always escape south to Arizona for a weekend or vacation if you're fed up with the snow in the winter; it's a 9-10 hour drive, doable in one day. Or of course a short flight.
