Half a loaded question for me since I don't really even like the bougie expensive places where money should matter. I'd want an upscale coastal town in Spain that still has very easy access to an international airport and trains to travel through Europe. But I love Spain. Mostly Madrid, but if I didn't need to work, then coastal cities without huge economies would be fine. Like Malaga or Marbella (even though no trains/airport) in the South. Or Bilbao and San Sebastian in the north since the weather is still moderate, but they get more 4 seasons and I like 4 season weather. I'd want to be by water for sure and among the culture of Spain. And none of the cities are far from Madrid for weekend visits or extended holidays.
And what would an ideal retirement look like to you?
my dream retirement place right now would be the Waco/Belton/Temple area of the great state of Texas. I would want to live the snowbird lifestyle in retirement where I spend the winters in places like South Texas,Florida,Southern California, and Arizona and the summers in places like Colorado and New Mexico
Summer/Fall on Nantucket, Winter/Spring in Sausalito.
I really like this... Sausalito is ideal. However id swap out Nantucket for somewhere like Rockport MA or Newport RI.. a little closer to the big cities for hospital care/airport proximity and seasonal business.
