What are some of the small /er/ish cities with ample tech jobs?
Looking for diversity and low crime rate.
Looking for short commute times.

What are you considering to be small(er)/(ish) and what kind of tech jobs are you looking for?

Are you looking to live strictly within the city or are you open to anywhere in an area?

Would Madison, WI count, or is that too big?

It definitely has a growing tech sector and is an excellent place to raise a family. I'd probably class it more as a "mid sized" city, but compared to some it could still be seen as "small".

Give Greenville-Spartanburg, SC a look. The metro is pretty large and growing, 800k+, but the city of Greenville is still small enough feeling that it isn't overwhelming at all.

Other cities I would look at are Chattanooga, TN, Knoxville, TN, Huntsville, AL, Grand Rapids, MI, and Boise, ID. All have relatively fast growing economies with plentiful jobs and cheaper cost of living.
