You’re joking about this, right? I’ve had plenty of both (I’ve got family in DC and have visited there a lot) and Dungeness is far superior.
Also, if the West Coast gets Alaska, it also gets King and Snow crab, which are amazing as well.
Sorry, but crab on the East Coast is a sad state of affairs. Same with the farmed Atlantic salmon that pales in comparison the what is available on the West Coast.
Sounds like you haven't been to Baltimore: The Blue Crab Mecca.
Has anyone in the thread tried a Baltimore Crab Cake vs Dungeness Crab Cake?
For those who "buy' their fish you will not experience the true delight of what fish tastes like until you've eatin fish prepared by Ike jime.
That's how I've always done striped bass and black bass but you can't cut the head completely off or fish & game will get really upset if they happen to board you.

If we have some sensitive or peta folks... so sorry charlie. Your Mrs. Paul's fish sticks are harvested.
Same thing in Florida... fish must be whole. The real science (key) is when for instance I catch a Mahi (Dolphin Fish) and throw it in the fish box.... it dies of suffocation. I don't want that. Why? Well... the animal will gasp for air and struggle to live and the tissue fills with lactic acid. Fish begins to putrefy right after death.
A spinal incursion kills and disables the fish from breathing, and the struggle ends. You can then pull the gills and let it bleed out (tail cut helps too). There are a few ways to do it that are effective.
I’m east coast. My sister has lived in Vancouver since the 1980s so I’m there frequently. I eat what’s put in front of me. My brother-in-law’s signature summer salad has a big heap of Dungeness crab meat on it. It’s delicate so nothing overpowers the crab. Berries from the Okanagan. Lemon to adjust the acid balance. It’s treated the way you treat lobster so you don’t overpower it.
I like sushi and poke. Not a fan of shellfish. So West Coast for me.
