How can Maryland be considered a NE state when it borders the South and DC? It can't get up and move farther north. Just because it's blue as heck, it doesn't move it's position on a map. Is that all it takes to be considered NE by some people, to be blue as heck?

I always considered anything north/east of DC as "northeast" even though I'm probably wrong. It has nothing to do with MD being "Blue as heck" though.

I live in the Northeast or Mid Atlantic, or whatever day of the week it is you want to define it as, and I don’t think people here in NJ care what it’s called. Only here do a few people regularly discuss it and other things geographic!

Ohio comes to my mind. Not bad in rankings, not good in rankings, just in the middle.
