I'll say it again...here are different types of lists that will have VERY different results:

1. Places people aspire to live in.

2. Places people actually move to.

3. Places people actually move to minus the move-outs, i.e. net.

Millennials are old now. The median age for this cohort is 31.4 They're in Congress now and one's even running for President. Perhaps it's time for the media and old-timers to start focusing on a new generation.

Yes, very true. Of course that comes with higher cost of living. Kind of a wash at the end of the day.

But as others have mentioned, environment, liberal politics, legal weed all contribute.

The most expensive cities are also where the top jobs tend to be...in tech, finance, and probably other fields.

All this data, like most population data, shows is that the drift toward the west coast and the sun belt is continuing as it has since the start of the 20th century. There's some ancillary data showing that people with good careers are moving to cities with better jobs and then having fewer kids in those cities (NYC is losing people but gaining high earning 35-45 year olds), but otherwise it's all just continuing population infill out west and down south.

Not NYC and Boston. Too expensive and the wages arent high enough. Those gain high earning Gen Xers and high earning international folks. If not high earning international folks, then its carribean folks willing to work really hard for really little in return
