As a resident of Illinois, I am well aware of Chicago's history as the US hub for Polish immigration. And yet, I have heard Chicagoans b**** and moan about eastern European immigrants.

Polish people being Eastern European is disputed.

In the Rust Belt town I live in, they wouldn’t have any trouble, especially being European (and not, say, Mexican or Filipino), other than the occasional hick who may talk down to them by assuming an accent means they’re less intelligent. I’m sure you’d find that anywhere, though.
In general, Midwesterners are some of the friendliest people in the country, and would be genuinely curious about where you’re from, as opposed to anti-social, condescending types you might find on the coasts.

Yeah, that’s true. But I doubt he was referring strictly to Polish immigrants. The Chicago MSA has a TON of immigrants from all over Eastern Europe.

Same here in New York. The only vaguely anti European sentiment would be liberals disliking the Russian government. But aside from that I never hear anyone complain about Eastern Europeans.

FalstaffBlues is a known Illinois/Chicago hater on CD, so I'm not surprised he's talking some non-sense to paint the area with a negative brush. There is zero disparaging of Eastern European immigrants here in my experience(and you're right, Poland is hardly Eastern European). I mean maybe in 1910, but absolutely not in 2019.

You're hanging with the wrong people, and they're definitely a minority. I lived in Chicago, and NEVER heard anyone disparage European immigrants.

Exactly. Their kids also 100% blend into white America
There's this guy at my job who I thought was a "regular white American", then I heard him speaking Russian on the phone to his mom.

The Greenville, South Carolina area (BMW factory), has one of the largest recent German immigrant populations in the nation. Along with Fort Myers, Florida.

Holland, Michigan and Pella, Iowa have a large Dutch population (but not first-generation).

Poland is by all means Eastern European, as Eastern European as it gets. It doesn't matter 1910 or 2019. EU membership has nothing to do with Western-ness of European country. Poland is of Slavic heritage and on the Eastern boundary of non-ex-Soviet Union euro countries. Polsha is markedly different from Western European countries.
