Appalachia the sub region, you're correct. The Appalachians, on the other hand, you'd be patently wrong.
The Appalachian mountains and their various foothill clusters cover the vast majority of the northeast, and Maritime Canada. That's to say nothing of the neighboring Adirondacks and Laurentian mountains.
In further fact, the Allegheny region extends far further into NY state than just the southern tier.
I'll never really understand why the south got the monopoly on a mountain range it does not exclusively own.

Yes, you can read that I explicitly wrote Appalachia (and even specified cultural Appalachia for those not familiar with the distinction) and not the Appalachian Mountains. The mountain range of course extends to Maine, but that is not what I said. I am indeed correct about Appalachia.

You have to understand too that I write this in a way as to edify the onlooker. Most people are not aware that the mountains exceed the famous region within.
Rural landscape: People tend to conjure up the images of dirt roads, farms, plantations, & blink towns. Not entirely off yet highly exxagerated expression. More basic amenities in these places than just a gas station & mom/pop store.
Urban landscape: Many people don't know that nearly half the state is urban now and soon to be majority. The general franchises of retailers/restuarants/others are in the state.
Education: Majority of the residents have HS diplomas & higher education. Not that backwards as a whole nor plurality as the multi media outlets display. Mississippi is the first state to open up a university for women in this country.
Fatty Fat Fat: Literally majority of the people aren't obese. Yes some people will experiment with frying foods & other questionable food ideas. Many people are gym & health enthusiast aa well.
Poverty: There are plenty of middle class & above neighborhoods in the cities & counties. Generally ignored for the over abundance love rural poverty/delta yet also overlook the inner city/town ghettos. More urban poverty than rural here.
Politics: Conservative state is mostly true. From the House, Senate, & Governor currently ( might change in a few days). Yet it's a plurality red state. Many cities & counties in the delta & other regions are blue as well. Liberal minded areas do exist especially in the college towns.
Lol, what? Oregon has voted Democrat for every presidential election since 1988. It has elected a democratic governor in every election since 1986. It’s house and senate is full of Democrats. Too many people confuse land for people.

That there exist people who pronounce the name of their state as "Joisey". In fact, that might get you punched in the face if you say it to the wrong person.
That the state is mostly urban or full of oil refineries and that everywhere looks like what people see driving on the northern end of the NJ Turnpike.
