With retirement coming in a few years I would like to find a place with the least overcast skies. I like stormy weather followed by bright sunshine days then stormy again. I nice invigorating climate. Or a place we’re chances are more rain/storms during the night with sunny cloudless days. Thanks in advance.
Some retirement oriented areas that might fit the bill would be Albuquerque, NM or Las Cruces, NM. They have more of a dry climate, but don't get many storms per say. It does rain more than Phoenix or Las Vegas, but still less than average. If you want storms and sun and would like a more tropical climate, anywhere along the I-4 corridor in central Florida from Orlando to Tampa Bay would be good too. There are thunderstorms in the summers pretty often during the day, but are out of the area pretty fast. I lived in Orlando for a year in the 2000's and loved it there. The areas I mentioned have a great support systems for retirees and are affordable. There are other factors that you would want to consider depending on your needs and preferences. There are also some other areas that might be worth considering that I didn't come up with off of the top of my head. Good luck in your search!
Oklahoma City has similar amounts of sunlight to San Diego and frequent storms if that’s what you’re looking for... it comes with tornadoes too though
The OP asked for an "invigorating climate" which Florida has never been confused with given the relentless heat/humidity. Parts of Colorado east of the Front Range would probably be the better option given the 300 days or so of sunshine and for elevation which puts you closer to storms sweeping through. Towns like Castle Rock, Monument, Loveland or Longmont might be good places to focus.
I am not sure why people on here are guessing the Southwest or the West for your preference of climate. Those places are deserts and will not get a lot of rain. The first thing that came up in my mind was Florida, because Florida will be very dynamic with the rainy weather and will have a lot of sunshine. I know that you wanted the weather to mainly rain at night.

I'm a native Floridian and current resident of Florida, it rarely rains for any length of time at night. Most of our rainfall total is achieved via thunderstorms which build through the heat of the day and typically let loose in the later afternoon hours up to sunset.
