This thread is about two bordering regions in two different states (West Texas and Southern New Mexico).I am familiar with both of these regions as I have lived in this part of the world for the vast majority of my life. Some of the major cities in Southern New Mexico are Carlsbad,Hobbs,Portales,Artesia,Clovis,,Roswell, and Ruidoso,Alamogordo and Las Cruces.

The major cities in West Texas are El Paso,Big Spring,Midland,Odessa,Abilene, and San Angelo. Both regions have an abundance of high paying jobs in the Energy Basin part of the regions.I can see how a more outdoors oriented person would prefer Southern New Mexico.I personally prefer West Texas but I am thinking of living in Southern New Mexico at some point in Las Cruces. So do you prefer West Texas or Southern New Mexico?I know a lot of people dont consider either region very desirable. Also, what are your reasons why???I chose West Texas because of family and its closer to outdoors activities that I enjoy and the lack of state income tax in the Lone Star State

I prefer the large-city life, so neither would work for me, but if I had to pick, Southern New Mexico is at least closer to beautiful nature. And New Mexico is a much smaller and more obscure state, so it'd make for more interesting conversation to say that I lived/had lived there.

Good points.I guess the closest thing to big city life in those regions would be El Paso, Texas.

I'd say if you need a good job it would be better to live in west Texas. Obviously if you want to traipse around the mountains and feed bears and stuff...........New Mexico is the better choice.

I picked SNM. Texas is overrated and most of the people I've met from there were arrogant af - almost as bad as New Yorkers.

Given the options, I would pick Las Cruces, NM. It's got some outstanding desert mountain peaks and sunsets, White Sands is nearby which is prebaby the coolest desert landscape I've seen anywhere. Cruces has NMSU and just a good solid old school New Mexico vibe with a borderlands influence. If I'm living in the Southwest, I gotta go with where the green chile is,

Wouldn't El Paso have the benefits of both i.e. Texas economic benefits with the New Mexico landscape readily available? Full disclosure asking this as somebody who has not been to any of the cities listed in this thread.

I dont think El Paso has a lot of 6 figure straight out of high school no degree blue collar jobs like Midessa and Carlsbad-Hobbs-Artesia but i could be wrong.

I think someone could find a good job in Eddy and Lea County too if they absolutely had to live in NM.
