I agree they’re much closer than most 1 & 2 (or in this case 1 & 3), but the OP did say factors like popularity and being better known. Dallas is both.

I still stand by my last post about Dallas having a larger GDP, been portrayed in movies/tv much more, and the fact they have all four pro sports teams vs Houston’s three makes Dallas shine brighter in more people’s eyes.

I’ve been to both cities and like Houston much more. I’ve said in more than one thread how I liked it so I’m no Houston hater. I’m just trying to answer the thread question how I see it.

Huh, I lived in Tucson for 14 years and visit family in Phoenix several times a year and I can't say I've heard this (unless it's coming from UA fans!). In general, I've found Tucson is just a much smaller version of Phoenix. Otherwise, there's not much difference between the two, except that maybe Phoenix has more amenities due to its population. Then again, I haven't lived in Tucson in 6 years and it has supposedly changed quite a bit the last decade.

My question would be whether the reverse was true. Go back 20-30 years and I believe that Memphis was clearly the #1 city in Tennessee. I would ask whether Nashville has eclipsed Memphis.

Stamford passed Hartford recently

I understand, but the results still don't constitute an eclipse. The differentials are just too minor.

But seriously, in regard to CT, I think it matters that most of Stamford's success is a result of it being within the NYC economic area, while Hartford's success is all its own. I don't mean to belittle Stamford, but it can't be denied that Stamford is a satellite city (a large suburb in the NYC orbit). Hartford is more independent. Stamford is a moon; Hartford is a sun.
