Right. Not sure why people are in such denial about it, there's nothing to be ashamed of.

I love my southern accent and hope I never lose it no matter where I live.

I never hear northerners say "there's so many transplants coming here this doesn't even feel like the south anymore." Yet in this forum, a lot of posters say that about their cities:

Dallas
Raleigh
Houston
Atlanta

You're southern. Be proud.

Even when I was in Charlotte for a layover, it felt mega Southern to me. The airport smelled like fried chicken and there were thick Southern accents everywhere.

Granted, airports are not the best example but I'm sure a lot of those people were from North Carolina.

And yes, us Northerners know we're in the South whenever we go to those cities

Felt the same in the Nashville airport. It’s a CD thing. Most of the residents of the aforementioned cities that I’ve encountered would consider their cities to be southern

I'm in Richardson right now and the Southern accents here are WAY stronger than Dallas proper, where Southern accents are still pretty common.

DFW is the South, no question about it

Right. Those cities aren't even borderline like say, San Antonio (which still had a strong case for being the South)

It's so stupid. No one says New York isn't the northeast anymore but somehow Miami is the Midwest or whatever.

For real. As if the south is some monolithic culture. New Orleans is pretty different than Augusta, Georgia, but both are a part of the south!!
