Different rankings. Were talking specifically about cancer research. Using the same source, MD Anderson in Houston is number one for cancer research and treatment:

More information on M.D. Anderson Cancer Center: https://www.mdanderson.org/documents...uick-facts.pdf

There are other notable institutions as well including Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and TIRR Memorial Hermann. Many people from all over the world come here for treatment. Oftentimes, unfortunately, it is for experimental treatments. Beau Biden, Vice-president's Biden son was in Houston for treatment of his brain tumor. Phil Mickelson's wife also came to Houston for breast cancer treatment. Gabby Giffords spent part of her rehabilitation in Houston.

On a personal level my cousin from Seattle moved here to have a lung transplant without a blood transfusion - something unavailable in her area.

If you haven't heard of the TMC maybe it's a good thing. Count your blessings!

Yes, but at least in my posts thats all I ever claimed it was. A poster said "Houston is not involved in disease research", but we definitely are as cancer is a disease. I never said we were number one or most important or anything like that, but were certainly involved in cancer treatment and research and were one of the best places in the country for that specific field.

There is a reason that Tua Tagovailoa (and many others) have come to Houston to get various sports surgeries.

The TMC has top of the line cancer hospitals, heart specialists, sports doctors, children's hospitals, medical schools, and other things and those of us who actually live here understand how much most cities pale in comparison to the breadth and quality of healthcare offered in Houston (again, the only possible exception being Boston).

Brush it off all you want, doesn't change a thing. Come see it for yourself if you don't believe us.

All I'm asking for is evidence that Houston's medical sector is large. Not talking points. Not examples of what it does well.

Is. Houston's. Medical. Sector. Large.

We never said Houston was the number one spot for it. Of course it isn’t. But it’s still big here.

The fact that you think it’s only because it’s big indicates you’re trying too hard to minimize it.

Where did I say that? All this because you didn't read?

I said it's not a particularly large center of medical research as suggested by NIH grants.

The data posted by Montclair above should, at the very least, show Houston is a player in medical research. Not in every aspect of it, but certainly in disease research.

You said exactly: " your point is that Houston participated? Great, but it doesn't have a particularly large role in disease research."

Thats simply not true and youve been provided data on this thread to show that. The key word is "disease". Cancer is a disease and Houston shines quite brightly there. If you were talking about other parts of the medical industry then maybe youd have a point.

You tried to move the goal posts to say: "All I'm asking for is evidence that Houston's medical sector is large. Not talking points. Not examples of what it does well."

Not the same thing. Your initial point was on disease research.
