Seattle:

Has become way too liberal to the point of a socialist society. The city has generally leaned this way over the decades but more in a moderate way. Don’t get me wrong, I lean democratic but my Seattle was a moderate democratic city. What the hell happened?

Not a 'homer' but I'll play anyway.

Charlotte.

1. The traffic. Yes, it's a big city so it's going to suck. But, it gets worse every year and the infrastructure is about 10 years behind. The interstates are a pain in the ass. The roads are narrow, there's no turning lanes where they are needed.

2. The construction. Yes, again it's a big city and it's a fast-growing city. My problem is the city is jamming in developments left and right on tiny strips of land, tearing down single homes and building 3-4 homes on the same lot, and building 1k+ units in areas where traffic is already bad. It's also causing more and more flooding as the water now has nowhere to go since what used to be greenland is now concrete. But, the city doesn't give a damn and why would they? They're getting the money from such projects. Sucks though that it screws up an already poor traffic/floodplain situation.

3. The scooters. I hate these things and I hate the idiots that use them. Thanks dummies for leaving them in the street and thanks for thinking you own the sidewalks when you use them. Maybe I wouldn't dislike them so much if the people who used them weren't such jerk-offs. Maybe.

4. The drivers. The stupidity around here behind the wheel is astonishing. Get off your phone and turn on your lights at night please, how can you drive w/ no lights on? Oh you're going to turn in front of me out of the shopping center? Well can you at least speed up so I don't have to slam on my brakes? Why couldn't you wait until I had passed, no one is behind me.

Sir, the left-turning traffic light is notoriously fast, could you please move up in the turning lane so the back half of my car isn't sitting in an active lane of traffic? You can fit 3 cars in the space between you and the car in front. Yes, I'm honking at you to move forward so I don't get hit. What's this now? The light is green and you're not moving because your phone is important, thanks man, we missed the light, but thanks for moving up. Hey man, the light turned green, put the phone down. Oh, now you're going to go 10 under because I honked at you for being an idiot, thats cool. Uh oh, here's another notoriously short light and you're turning left as well. Oh you're not? You're making a U-Turn eh? Well there's clearly a 'No U-Turn' sign in front of your face, please proceed forward and turn at the first available street. No dude come on, I don't have time for this. Where is a damn cop when you need one?

For the person who says drivers are like this everywhere. Maybe so, but Charlotte is a mix of the Northern aggressive, the Southern laidback, the care-free, and the just plain idiotic jamming up the crowded infrastructure. It's not a good mix.

5. "Why isn't this city like where I came from?" Probably because where you came from is different.

6. The airport. Gee yes, I would love to wait 45 minutes in the security line. Oh, now I have to go to the checkpoint at the other end of the airport as my gate? Thanks. Oh whats this now? Thousands of Boy Scouts are jamming up the place coming back from their big jamboree and there was no warning of this? How awesome! But hey at least I got there early, I had no other choice. Crazy though how I can get in and out of the likes of O'Hare and DFW and Detroit w/ no problem.

Other than that, it's cool I suppose.

Baltimore

1. The squeegee kids. Common sense; just go back to school and join community activities, while adults join volunteer and community organizations while being happy to live off a minimum wage job at Mondowin. Just leave the tourists and aspiring gentrifiers alone in their territory.

2. The corrupt government that allows too many crooks off the hook; thus leading to the crime mess that the city's in, along with the subpar infrastructure that causes all the potholes and bumps on streets, water main breaks, and woeful public schools.

3. Peter Angelos and the front office of the Orioles. Millenials don't even remember a time when the O's played in a World Series, and the current management essentially is making our once proud MLB franchise a virtual AAA club to other teams, who trade away our most promising stars and dump us with a combo of either aging veterans or young prospects who are years from breaking it big. It doesn't help that the Nats had seriously eaten into our fanbase, where a sellout is rare nowadays, even if the Yankees/Red Sox come to play.

4. The transit system. Baltimore's isn't bad for a city its size, but the service isn't that great (especially on the Light RaiLink and on weekends), and the criminal activity has led many to use cars or rideshares instead. Unlike DC where its Metro is undergoing an aggressive program to fend off riders who refuse to pay, its easy to just hop on a train and get by for free, leading to a lot of missed fares.

5. The stagnant development. Numerous projects help to hold promise to bring the city forward, but it seems that for every project that finally gets built, far more (i.e. rowhomes and old businesses) close. Baltimore develops at a snail's pace, and the lack of the HQ or even many regional offices of numerous firms means that it isn't as attractive for many corporations to move in. A side effect of this is that the retail activity punches below its weight inside the city limits, and it shows with Harborplace half empty and Lexington Market more than half vacant, along with numerous surface lots and parking garages without retail in them.

2. Architecture. LA allows so many different architectural styles from Art Deco, Craftsman, Spanish, Italianate, East Coast, Mid Century to all types of Modern. Why cant it just pick one style like Victorian in San Francisco so every building looks the same.
3. Beaches and Mountains. LA has so many beaches to explore and mountains to hike. I hate too many choices or no choices like other flat/inland cities. No time to do everything.
4. Sprawl. LA has too many choices of amazing places to explore all over the Metropolis for getting good food or museums or nice village towns, beach towns, botanical gardens, or hiking trails. No wonder there is just too much traffic in all directions. People just want to live all over because there are just too many great places yet complain there is too much traffic. Ugh why not just have one nice central area with a bunch of boring suburbs like other cities.
5. Public Transportation. LA has a very good urban rail system yet it is still underutilized. If more was built around there for people to live or buy or work, and people commuted, then the system can be 24/7 coming every 5 minutes plus buses every 5 minutes. But they dont want to use it and then complain that it doesnt come frequently or not 24 hours. Okurrr.
You do realize LA does have real problems right? Your sarcasm on it is quite strange.

Actually more thunderstorms would be good for LA. There is water right now, but the region constantly teeters between droughts and averages almost every year.

LA does have a great variety architecture, but many of the older Spanish-style homes are being torn down for McMansions on tiny plots of land that look insanely stupid. Then there is the fact that the city just literally doesn't build enough housing. Not even close to enough. Then there are the buildings that are not earthquake proof. Then there is the fact that rich people in the hills are able to sue nonstop to block any form of density whatsoever.

Having beaches is a huge plus. But the water is cold almost year round, parking is a nightmare and expensive, there are used needles in the sand, and when it rains the water is full of feces.

Having mountains is a huge plus. But forest fires and mudslides occur every year, and the fires are constantly worsening.

Sprawl is bad. Sarcasm on this is not funny. There are a lot of places to explore, but good luck ever getting there with the traffic and how long it takes to drive basically anywhere. That also adds to climate change and bad air quality.

LA's public transit is improving tremendously, but it's still not what it could be for a city of its size and density. At-grade LRT is stupid. LAMTA just extended headways during rush hour which is the opposite of what a system should do. It will still be decades before the SFV is connected to the basin. So yes, it's improving, but not nearly enough or nearly quickly enough to serve the region. See, again, rich people suing to stop everything. This ends with not enough TOD and not enough people within walking distance to rail stops, which means not as many people can use it. Also, constantly adding new traffic lanes is dumb and a waste of money.

Mostly I want Seattle to be bigger and denser. It's risen to "decent, in some areas" but I want to live to see it be Chicago or San Francisco.

Our other three biggest problems are affordability, transportation capacity, and street disorder. But none of that really affects me.

Austin

1. The summer heat. Intensely hot, for a very long time, with zero moments of relief.
2. Geographically isolated and no nearby pleasant coastal or mountain areas to escape #1.
3. Public transit. The bond in November needs to pass.
4. State of Texas dumb/corrupt policies. Specifically, no legal weed, direct theft of funding from Austin schools, ridiculous gerrymandering.
5. The last decade of UT athletics.

LOL, I've heard a few New Yorkers say that. Not a whole lot and they're mostly younger adults.

My own dislikes about D.C.:

Traffic on the beltway and other areas during rush hour is horrendous. Thankfully, I have the option to work from home.

I wish the city was 2 hours closer to the ocean beach. That would have been perfect.

It would have been nice to have some more traditional ethnic neighborhoods in the city, like Italian, Jewish and Greek.

I wish the downtown buildings were a little bit taller, like 20 stories high. The Washington Monument would still be towering and easily visible. That's it.
