I ask this because the governor of Washington has ordered all bars to close (and restaurants can only serve food via takeout). But when I swung by my parents house in the Tangletown neighborhood of Seattle I noticed that the corner bar up the street was open and pretty crowded (Leny’s on 56th and Kirkwood).

So I guess the order was just a suggestion? I’m wondering what people in Chicago, Kentucky, etc. and other places where bars have been ordered to close are seeing. Is there any teeth to enforcing this? I’m pretty surprised and honestly am conflicted. I get that this is people’s livelihood and maybe they can’t afford closing for a long period, but this is a public health emergency and crowding into a bar seems like a bad idea. Anyway, I’m curious what other cities where bars and restaurants have been ordered to close are seeing.

Yeah I saw a bar up in Northgate (like Pinehurst and 115th-ish) with a lively crowd inside/outside of it last night. I guess maybe there's no penalty announced, so bars figure they can just keep drawing business and shut it down if the cops come by? I agree, it's extremely careless.

All of the major cities: NYC, Chicago, LA, Boston, SF have completely shutdown bars and restaurants. Can only speak for Chicago, but yes, it is eerie. Bars and restaurants in my neighborhood are complying and have gone dark.

Everything here in DC has been shut down. This feels like the start of a horror movie

So crazy.

Just disastrous to the economy in general. I can't see how this won't cause at least a mild recession once done.

I think we’re already feeling it.

I think this whole thing is overblown but I think this is kind of irresponsible

Depends how long it continues. They told the kids to stay home and plan to come back after spring break which here is 3-30 through 4-3. Is there some magical thing that will occur between now and then or does this continue for months? I get the flatten the curve thing but at what point do we start to get back to normal?

Feel bad for small business owners. They have rent to pay and closing down for months doesn't compute. I'm sure landlords will be eagerly awaiting their lease payments, not to mention all the wait staff/bartenders, etc. that rely on tips.
