Depends on where within NY you are coming from. There is a (sub)region called the north Country, which is basically the area east of Lake Ontario, including the Thousand Islands, the Watertown area, St. Lawrence Seaway, the Tug Hill Plateau and even into the Adirondacks and Champlain Valley/Coast/Plattsburgh area, give or take.

If you are coming from NYC, you may think of the Catskills/Hudson Valley as going Up North, let alone the previous area of the state. Same in terms of say the Finger Lakes, the Great Lakes(Erie or Ontario), Niagara Falls, etc.

We also have Geneva-On-The-Lake.

Most native South Carolinians have a wide variety of vacation destinations they go to. Most of ours in the Lowcountry are in FL. Generally north of Daytona Beach. Hilton Head is popular among some folks who want to get away.

A lot of the lower middle class folks (not just in the Carolinas, but VA west of I-95, most of WV, other states) go to Myrtle Beach. They have enough to stay there for maybe 2 or 3 nights for their 1 vacation each year. I think I read something like 85% of the vacationers to Myrtle drive.

It seems like the more affluent ones come down to the Charleston area more and more every summer. In 2010, Myrtle Beach had 1.73 million passengers at their airport, Charleston barely over 2 million.

Then CHS got Southwest in early 2011, immediately went to 2.5 million and has grown exponentially since, on pace for 5 million this year pre-pandemic. MYR was at about 2.5 million or so.

In NC its usually the Mountains or Virginia Beach. Most people in my section of the state (the sandhill's area) go south to Myrtle Beach SC.

Olympic Peninsula for Washington

(Well, western Washington at least. I guess eastern Washington people go to Coeur d'Alene?)

In MA it’s Maine Vermont of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.

In Maryland it’s the Poconos I guess.

Texas’ most frequent spots are probable the Hill Country of central Texas, San Antonio or maybe Austin which are kind of adjacent to that, and the gulf coast, especially South Padre and Galveston islands.

In Arizona, literally anything north of Phoenix. A majority of the northern half of Arizona is mountains and forests. There are a surprising amount of skiers and ski shops in Phoenix, I was surprised.

In Maryland, Ocean City, in the southern part of the Eastern Shore, is definitely one of the most popular. Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks also seem to be rather popular, as are many other beaches along the mid-Atlantic coast. There's also Deep Creek Lake, a man-made reservoir out west in the Appalachians, along with other outdoorsy stuff in the mountains.
